We bet Calderone remembers Russ Ballard's 'Voices'
Whether you heard Russ Ballard on the radio or TV's Miami Vice, you can not deny that the Voices in his head turned into great rock songs for ‘80s music lovers. Although Ballard's ‘70s compositions are nice, especially Three Dog Night's Liar and Ace Frehley's New York Groove, his ‘80s works are impressive including songs he kept for himself like Voices.
Released in 1984, Voices made it on MTV but only reached No. 110 on the singles charts. However, the song was dramatic enough to catch the attention of the producers of Miami Vice as the song was featured in the 1984 episode entitled Calderone's Return. The video for "Voices" may have inspired the selection as the action is non-stop with a damsel in distress and a helicopter chase.
Here is the roll call of the Top 40 hits penned by English-born Ballard in the early ‘80s: Santana Winning (81); America You Can Do Magic (82); Frida I Know There's Something Going On (82) and Agnetha Faltskog Can't Shake Loose (83).
