We love you, Lou Reed, but maybe not such 'Suzanne'
When Lou Reed’s name is mentioned, most associate it with the ‘60’s Velvet Underground or the ‘70s hit Walk on the Wild Side. But the ‘80s was a busy and successful time for Reed as well as he promoted Honda Scooters, generated six solo albums and several enjoyable singles including very danceable I Love You Suzanne.
I Love You Suzanne reached No. 28 on the Mainstream Rock Charts in 1984 and the video is a fun poke at Reed, who at the ripe old age of 42, refuses to dance with a younger girl. In the end, Reed busts out of the moves to the surprise of the young ingénue.
In 1989, Reed would score one of his finest critical and commercial successes with the New York album. In April, Reed, now 71, received a liver transplant and is recovering well.
