Weird Al's Lost and found: Oh, Ricky, you're so fine ...

I’ve been enjoying reading the recently released Weird Al – The Book, which is a coffee table biography full of stories, pictures and humorous musings by Weird Al Yankovic.

It was in May of 1983 when I saw my first Weird Al video on HBO’s Video Jukebox. Who could have predicted the success and longevity of Weird Al’s career based off his debut video of Ricky, a parody of Toni Basil’s Mickey.

A loving homage to Lucille Ball, Ricky stars Weird Al as Ricky Ricardo and world-famous voiceover artist Tress MacNeille as Lucy. The single did not chart, but it would only be a year later that Weird Al would score with Eat It leading to the brief but brilliant segments of Weird Al TV on MTV and career that remains unrivaled in parody music. For those in Tampa Bay, Welrd Al plays Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday, April 13.
