Why this Aussie classic 'Live It Up' wasn't a big hit in the U.S. is mental as anything

Stuck in the '80s has been described as mental before, but today we prove it by featuring one of Australia's favorite bands, Mental As Anything and their biggest hit Live It Up.

Of the 20 Top 40 hits they had in their home country of Australia, Live it Up was Mental as Anything's highest charting single, making it to No.2 in 1985. When the song was featured in Crocodile Dundee in 1986, it became a worldwide hit everywhere except America.

Besides their catchy songs, Mental As Anything is known as a band with a sense of humor so it's no surprise that the video for Live It Up is silly with lead singer Martin Plaza serenading a bunch of nerds at a diner whose blue plate special features toast with peas and ketchup (?) that is probably less popular than a vegemite sandwich.  By the time the '90s ended, Mental As Anything faded from the charts however some of the members are still around playing the old hits to the retro crowds back home.
