Will the 'Beaches' remake be your hero? Watch the trailer and see
Did you forget there’s a remake of Beaches coming this Saturday on Lifetime? It stars Idina Menzel and Nia Long in the roles made famous by Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey - best friends for life with intertwining but different destinies.
The whole remake had totally slipped by mind until this morning when I was watching the 1988 original on TV - probably Lifetime now that I think of it. And before you make any judgements, you try finding good ‘80s programming at 6 a.m. on a Tuesday morning.
So yeah, having rewatched the ‘80s Beaches, I have this unfortunate song bouncing around in my head. (No, not THAT one.)
Reports have it the remake largely follows the original, which is one reason Menzel was reluctant to do it.
"Well, I saw the movie back in high school with two of my best friends. We cried our eyes out in the movie theater, so it's quite a nostalgic memory for me," Menzel told E! Online. "But if I'm being completely honest, I was terrified to do it at first because I love the movie, it's a beautiful, beautiful movie and both of those women — especially Bette Midler, for me — were idol my whole life."
Ultimately, the challenge of bringing the story to a new generation of fans won over, she admitted. Here’s the trailer for the Beaches remake, which debuts Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern on Lifetime.
