BEHIND THE LENS, OUR LENS
Veterans Day 2009 (9 images)
Staff Photographers from the St. Petersburg Times spread out around the community over the last few days to capture images from events around our communities honoring our veterans. Clearwater based staff photographer Jim Damaske was one of those photographers covering events. Damaske, who has worked at the Times for 22 years as well as a stint in the 1970's when he was a college student, says the event has special meaning to him.
"You want to remember them. My dad was a veteran and it gave more significance to me after he died. It's interesting that there's still some of these people who were in the same war as my dad was. They're going away. There's not as many and we're losing their stories. I think it's important to remember their stories," Damaske says.
