Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria had just begun reading the children's book Mort the Sport by author Robert Kraus during the Reading with the Rays summer reading program at the St. Petersburg Public Library, Thursday, 6/30/16, when his daughter Elle, 3, jumped up on stage to join him.

Elle gave her father an adoring look as he read to a group of 100 children and their parents. It was a nice moment that captured the love between a daughter and her father.

The Reading with the Rays program is in it's ninth year and encourages students from Pre-K to 12th grade to avoid summer learning loss by reading for 24 hours during the summer months.

Participating libraries track students' progress and award prizes for reaching reading goals, including two free tickets to a Rays game. The program is made possible with the help of the Tampa Bay Times Newspaper in Education program and the public library systems in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Citrus, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties.
