Fasano cleared of ethics complaint

Florida's Ethics Commission has cleared state Sen. Mike Fasano of wrongdoing over a Democrat's complaint that Fasano misused his post as chairman of the transportation appropriations committee.

Ronald Rice complained that Fasano, R-New Port Richey, tried to stop one company from printing the state's driver handbooks because Fasano's business partner lobbied for a competitor. Fasano maintained the complaint was frivolous.

"That's lovely," said Rice, who is running for the Florida House seat of Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey. "It kind of plays into the fact that it's what happens when you let the fox guard the hen house. ... We need to foster change this year in state government."
