In Largo, Black draws challenger, interim commissioner draws none

Largo City Commissioner Robert Murray slid into office Friday.

Murray, 54, who was appointed to the Largo City Commission three months ago, won a new term when no one filed to run against him Friday. Murray, who had been active in city committees and boards, works as a senior flight mechanic for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce treasurer Joseph Falanga will challenge City Commissioner Mary Gray Black in the Nov. 4 election. Falanga, 52, said he decided to challenge Black because he doesn't think she's done enough to support local businesses. Black, 69, who was most recently elected in 2005, also served on the commission in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.
