Baker heads to China to talk up green policies

ST. PETERSBURG -- Mayor Rick Baker is bound for Asia yet again.

Fresh from a recent goodwill trip to Japan, Baker is set to arrive in China on Sunday as part of a national delegation of mayors known for their green initiatives. The delegation will visit Beijing, Qingdao and Shanghai before departing Sept. 14.

It won't cost taxpayers a dime, the city says. The cost of the trip is being funded by the Starr Foundation, a billion-dollar private foundation that supports globalization. Read more on the foundation's Web site.

Other members of the delegation include Mayor Ralph Becker of Salt Lake City and Mayor Kathleen Novak of Northglenn, Colo.
