Political signs marred, vanishing in Hernando
'Tis the season for political sign vandals, as the photo above shows. This McCain-Palin sign -- now scarred with a "He sucks" and "She too" written over the candidate's names -- is one of the more vivid examples. It is stationed at the intersection of Spring Hill Drive and U.S. 41 in Hernando County.
Local Democratic party officials said they are seeing thieves steal Obama-Biden signs by the hundreds. Jay Rowden, party chairman, said his staffers distributed 500 signs in recent weeks. By his estimate, about a 100 remain standing along roads and in yards. The rest: stolen, he says.
It's hard to police this activity, party officials acknowledge. But Rowden said the upside is the reaction from the sign owners: they are so peeved about their stolen signs that they are sure to vote on Election Day.
