Chuck Rainey hospitalized, released
Pinellas political icon Chuck Rainey said he was hospitalized in the middle of last week due to unhealthy potassium levels. Rainey, 76, said he was released Monday and is now at home and feeling better.
In 1967 Gov. Claude Kirk appointed Rainey, then serving in the state Legislature, to fill the unexpired term of a county commissioner who had died in office. Rainey stepped down in 1996, after establishing a reputation as one of the area's premier power brokers.
"It's one of the wonderful things that happens as you get older," Rainey said of his hospitalization.
