St. Pete passes memorial resolution to honor Don McRae

ST. PETERSBURG- The City Council passed a resolution of memorial tribute in honor of former city manager Don McRae today.

McRae, St. Petersburg's first African-American city manager who presided over
a period of racial tumult in the city in the 1990s, died Sunday after a
long illness. He was 78.

"He was a person who was a constantly dedicated public servant," said Mayor Rick Baker. "He did some very courageous things."

Council member Wengay Newton added, "He was truly a trail blazer. One of the reasons I am sitting here is because the men that he was."
