Redistricting group plans Tampa event
Fair Districts Florida, the group leading the charge to change the way the state's voting districts are drawn, has a fundraiser set for tomorrow night. It's at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Tampa attorney Tom Scarritt. Scarritt's wife, Linda, is the central Florida finance director for Fair Districts Florida. Among those co-hosting the event are Tampa City Council members John Dingfelder (a partner in Scarritt's law firm) and Linda Saul-Sena; Helen Gordon-Davis, Betty Castor, and defeated Congressional candidate John Dicks.
Fair Districts is trying to get 700,000 signatures on a petition so that consitutional amendments regarding redistricting can appear on the 2010 ballot. For more information on the effort, go to www.fairdistrictsflorida.org. For more information on tomorrow's event, call (813) 505-0351.
