Pasco Republicans back Bill McCollum
LAND O’ LAKES – Pasco County Republicans on Thursday night took the bold step of endorsing … a Republican.
Meeting at Land O’Lakes Community Center, 213 members voted to endorse Attorney General Bill McCollum in his bid for governor. One person abstained. Another dissented.
The Pasco County group becomes the first county Republican organization to endorse McCollum, who is running against Democrat Alex Sink, according to former chairman Bill Bunting.
Bunting says this vote sends a strong message: McCollum is their guy for governor. No other Republicans need apply.
“Pasco isn’t afraid to take a leadership role,” he said, adding he believes other counties will follow suit.
Chairman Randy Maggard said it’s time for Republicans to get in line behind McCollum. “We don’t have to wait,” he said. “We want McCollum.”
