House candidate is short on bucks, flush with Bucs

Republican Todd Marks, who's running to replace Faye Culp (she has term-limited out) in the House District 57 seat, got trounced in the latest fundraising quarter by his GOP opponents Dana Young and Dan Molloy. Marks raised $13,813 to Molloy's $15,575 and Young's whopping $63,851. But on Wednesday, Marks had some help from Tampa Bay Buccaneers Willie Allen, Michael Clayton and Josh Johnson at a South Tampa fundraiser at the Home Theater Gallery. Also on hand: Sandy MacKinnon, CEO of Yale trucks, and his wife, Dottie Berger.

Marks explains the fundraising gap the way many who lag behind do: The bulk of his donors are regular folks who will vote for him rather than well-connected fat cats. If elected, Marks said one of his top priorities will be cutting the tangible tax to help business owners lower their expenses and keep people employed. "We need to find ways to save jobs and one way to do that is to quit overtaxing people," he said.
