Tampa council candidate collects cash from outside Florida
First-time candidate Tony DeSisto's first campaign finance report shows he raised an impressive $24,000 to fund his race for the District 4 Tampa City Council seat in 2011. But a close look at the report shows he loaned his campaign $10,000, and of his 61 contributions, 37 are from outside Florida, with many from his home state of Rhode Island. And of the in-state donations, seven come from members of the same family.
In other Tampa election fundraising news: Seth Nelson, a candidate for the District 3 seat, pulled in $9,000, and Lynette Judge, a candidate for the District 5 seat, raised $785. Council member Joseph Caetano, who's running for re-election to the District 7 seat, raised nothing. "I've just been too busy," Caetano said.
