St. Petersburg City Council member Jamie Bennett to enter nonprofit world
ST. PETERSBURG -- City Council member Jamie Bennett, who served as the council's homeless outreach coordinator during most of his nine-year stint in office, said he will join the staff of the St. Petersburg Free Clinic's Beacon House after he resigns in January.
His new title?
Jobs and housing coach, he said.
"I've never done that before," said Bennett, who owned a lawn mowing company until recently. "I certainly have connections that I have built up over nine years."
The Free Clinic Beacon House offers 30 beds to single, homeless men, according to the organization's Web site.
Director Brent P. Jenkins could not immediately be reached for comment.
Bennett resigned from the council to run for mayor. He placed sixth in the 10-way September primary.
