Norman, White plan fundraising events
Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White will kick off his re-election campaign Feb. 17 with a fundraiser at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. It will be interesting to see who continues to back White after the drama surrounding payment of his legal bills by Hillsborough County taxpayers.
Commissioners voted this month to sue White to recoup the costs of defending him in a sexual discrimination lawsuit. As board members pressed White to defray the legal costs, he made it clear he didn't have money, telling them: "I don't have it, I don't have it, I don't have it." Fellow County Commissioner Jim Norman will have a fundraising event Saturday to support his state Senate campaign. It's from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at FishHawk Sporting Clays in Lithia. The cost is $95 per person, which includes lunch, two boxes of shotgun shells and sporting clays. There will also be a raffle for a 12-gauge shotgun and a silent auction for a 1911 Colt. For information, call (813) 689-0490.
