Saul-Sena bikes, boats for cash

Tampa City Council member Linda Saul-Sena, a Democrat running for the Hillsborough County Commission, has long been a champion of transportation alternatives. And now she's putting her money where her mouth is, quite literally. This week, she hosted a fundraiser on a water taxi on the Hillsborough River. Last week at a campaign event, she distributed bike tags with her name on it to bicyclists. Saturday, she'll be at Unioin Station issuing a city commendation in honor of National Train Day. Trucks on Bayshore, though, she's not so keen on. At a City Council meeting Thursday, when council member John Dingfelder suggested posting more signs letting truckers know Bayshore is off limits, she said she would prefer not to muddy up the streetscape with signs. She proposed some other "truck deterring techniques." Like low wires. Saul-Sena is up against Republican Ken Hagan and Jim Hosler, who's running with no party affiliation, in the race for the District 5 commission.
