A broken discharge pipe is being blamed for a spill that sent thousands of gallons of wastewater into a canal near Bayou Grande Wednesday morning.

The city of St. Petersburg disclosed the spill at 5002 Shore Acres Blvd NE in a report to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. In the report, the city estimated that 5,800 gallons of wastewater flowed from the broken pipe into the canal.
