Hernando Clerk: Longtime staffer Chorvat wins GOP primary

In the race for Hernando County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Douglas Chorvat was the winner, earning nearly 53 percent of the vote over Joel Fritton in the Republican primary race.

Chorvat, an 18-year employee of the clerk's office, faces no-party candidate Michael Lamberti in November.

"I am elated," Chorvat said as he celebrated the election outcome with 100 or so of his supporters at "taco Tuesday" at a Brooksville restaurant. "It has just been a great learning experience … I've learned so much."

The clerk’s job description is expansive, and includes overseeing the county’s finances, recording and archiving legal documents, keeping records of the County Commission and auditing county functions. The clerk’s annual salary is $131,716.This is a developing story. Check back on tampabay.com for updates.
