Can Largo Vice Mayor Jamie Robinson rescind his resignation?
Yes, City Attorney Alan Zimmet said this week in response to a citizen questioning the legality of Robinson's decision to take back his resignation.
Robinson is allowed to stick around for a few reasons: City commissioners had not yet taken action to fill his seat and Robinson withdrew his resignation between the time it was submitted — Jan. 26 — and the specified effective date — Feb. 29.
The memo noted that Largo's city charter doesn't advise whether or not a resignation can be revoked.
"To determine that a commissioner could not revoke his or her resignation prior to the effective date and prior to the appointment of a replacement, would not only defeat the will of the voters of the City of Largo," the memo said, "but would encourage members of the Commission who decided to resign to do so with very little or no notice to the city."
