Candidate's congregation moving to new location
Bill Gunter’s congregation is moving to a new location off State Road 54 in Trinity.
Gunter, the pastor of Redeemer Community Church and the Republican nominee for the State House seat vacated by former Rep. Mike Fasano, said the move has nothing to do with politics.
“The congregation has been talking about this for years,” he said. “It’s just that this happened during the campaign.”
Faith Baptist Church, about a half mile from Redeemer Community at 9230 Ridge Road, purchased the building and 10-acre site on Tuesday.
The Rev. Todd Adams, pastor of Faith Baptist, said church leaders have sought the property for years to handle its growing congregation.
About 500 worshippers show up at Sunday services now, though the church is intended for about 180, which has led to staggered services. The new location can handle about 400 people, he said.
Gunter, meanwhile, said the building and grounds were too much for his congregation of about 100, so it made sense to sell the property to Faith Baptist and move. Neither side would disclose the sale price.
Adams said his congregation will move in January after remodeling.
Redeemer Community Church will move to the Trinity Village Crossings shopping center behind the Bonefish Grill. At some point, Gunter said, the church will embark on a building program. Church leaders are eyeing property off S.R. 54 a few miles away.
