Accusations fly in District 58 race
The mud's a-flying in the Democratic primary for the District 58 state House seat. The special primary election to replace Democrat Michael Scionti is Tuesday. The district includes Seminole Heights, West Tampa and a small part of Town 'n Country. Most of the hostility in the race is between supporters of Janet Cruz, who has roots in West Tampa and is a high-profile fundraiser for Democrats statewide, and Pat Kemp, a longtime community activist who lives in Seminole Heights and chairs the Hillsborough County Democratic Party. Attorney Gil Sanchez, who revived the county's Hispanic Democratic Caucus, is also in the race.
Here's a story from earlier in the week that takes a look at what legislation the canddiates would like to take to Tallahassee.
