Baker changes mind on term limits
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker -- who will leave office due to term limits -- told a panel of Florida senators today that he no longer believes that "eight is enough" when it comes to serving in the Legislature.
"As someone who was part of the eight is enough campaign many years ago, I believe the Century Commission is correct on the expansion of legislative term limits to 12 years," Baker said in Tallahassee.
But easing term limits in city hall? Baker wasn't going that far.
"You notice it was legislative term limits that I was talking about," Baker said with a laugh. "I've always felt 12 years was better than eight, but I'm not seeking it in St. Pete. I'm very comfortable going on with another career in 10 months."
