Ballots on hold in Pasco

The Pasco County elections supervisor has notified candidates and political party officials that he has stopped production of absentee ballots due to Pasco County Democrats suing to open the primary for the District 1 county commission seat.

"Please be advised that our production of absentee ballots for the Primary Election has been postponed due to pending litigation," wrote Tiffanie Alligood, senior deputy to Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley. "As soon as possible, the elections' office will notify you when we are able to proceed with our mass mailing of absentees (i.e. outcome of pending litigation)."

Republican Commissioner Ted Schrader faces John Nicolette in the GOP primary Aug. 26, but John M. Taylor filed to run as a write-in in the general election. Under state law, that means the GOP primary is open only to Republican voters -- though there will be only write-in opposition for the winner in the general election. Democrats want a judge to kick Taylor off the ballot because Taylor has a homestead exemption on a property outside the district. See more here.
