A battle for BayWalk?
ST. PETERSBURG — One spot in BayWalk has grabbed the interest of several potential tenants, from a sports lounge concept to a “table tennis social club” like one in New York that’s co-owned by Susan Sarandon.
Curtis Rorebeck, part of the leasing team for BayWalk, says his company has had several conversations with investors interested in opening a version of SPiN, the table tennis club. They’re trying to finalize a letter of intent, he said, but haven’t yet come to terms.
The 8,000-square-foot space would be smaller than the 13,000-square-foot New York location, which has 15 tables, cocktails and DJs, according to an article last year in Vanity Fair. The New York club membership costs $1,000 a year or $100 a month, according to the article, but is open to the public for $15 per half-hour
A spokesperson for SPiN New York confirmed Friday afternoon that SPiN is exploring expansion opportunities in Florida.
Meanwhile, this week, owners of the Loft, a Courtside Grille-meets-Miami-nightclub concept, talked about bringing the club to the same spot in BayWalk after posting a “coming soon” announcement on Facebook. Angelo Proestopoulos, one of the club’s four partners, said they were told “not to push anything” until they have a signed contract.
