Bernie McCabe is not investigating Jabil deal
ST. PETERSBURG-- Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney Bernie McCabe said he has no immediate plans to look into a controversial deal benefiting Jabil Circuit approved by the City Council last month.
"To me knowledge we have received no inquiries on that," McCabe said. "At this point, I haven't seen anything that would implicate an investigation."
St. Petersburg Times columnist Howard Troxler urged McCabe to take the issue to a grand jury.
The City Council approved $12.7-million in incentives for Jabil without public notice, discussion or mention of what it was voting on.
Meanwhile, Council member Karl Nurse has called for a public workshop to discuss the Jabil deal and future economic development negotiations. That discussion has been pushed back to a council meeting on Thursday, July 24.
