Bill to expand PTC reach withdrawn
A bill that would have expanded the regulation of limousines and other cars for hire in Hillsborough County was withdrawn by its primary sponsors, Sen. Jim Norman and Rep. Shawn Harrison, Tuesday.
The bill, which also would have allowed permit holders for cab service to transfer their permits to others, had come under fire from some operators of vehicles for hire. Many of them had rallied around another bill floated by Sen. Ronda Storms to abolish the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission.
That bill was approved but was amended to require that Hillsborough County and its three cities approve doing away with the PTC and turning over its duties the County Commission.
While Norman was listed as a sponsor of the bill preserving the PTC and extending its reach, Sen Jack Latvala said he initially was supposed to be the sponsor in his chamber but he was out of town as the deadline approached to submit it.
