Bob Buckhorn seeks to tame Tampa's balky, outdated system for building and development permits

Mayor Bob Buckhorn campaigned on a pledge to change "Tampa's economic DNA" and often says the city's permitting system ought to be modern enough to allow a builder to track a permit on a smart phone.

The new system will provide businesses, homeowners and contractors with online access to permitting and licensing information, resulting in "quicker permits, less hassle and more money saved in lost time," Buckhorn said in a prepared statement.
