Brandes, GOP service veterans slam Long's Florida House ad
Republican candidate Jeff Brandes, who's seeking to oust state Rep. Bill Heller, has joined two other GOP members to call on state Rep. Janet Long, D-Seminole, to pull an ad featuring her son speaking of his military services and calling Larry Ahern a coward.

Veterans Strongly Condemn Janet Long’s Slanderous TV Ad Against an Honorable Veteran
Call on Long to Pull Down Shameful Ad
TALLAHASSEE – Three Florida Legislators and Veterans are condemning liberal Democrat incumbent Janet Long’s slanderous television ad, where she uses her son, a Veteran, to call Air Force Veteran Larry Ahern “a coward.” Larry Ahern served in the U.S. Air Force from 1973-1977. The Veterans, State Rep. Rich Workman (HD-30), State Rep. Clay Ford (HD-03), and Jeff Brandes (HD-52 GOP Nominee) issued the following statement in response:
“You can say a lot of things in a campaign, but for Janet Long to use her son to call a fellow veteran a coward is beyond the pale and the worst kind of gutter politics. It’s shameful, embarrassing to Floridians, and offensive to veterans – and must be taken off the air immediately. Larry Ahern is an Air Force Veteran with an honorable record who has served overseas in defense of our country. Desperation as an incumbent Democrat trying to save a Tallahassee political career is no justification for slandering the name of an honorable veteran. The people of Pinellas County deserve better than Janet Long’s liberal policies and shameful gutter politics, and next Tuesday, they’ll show her exactly what they think of attacks like this.”
