Breaking up Pinellas environmental management: the memo
Pinellas County wants to dismantle its environmental management department at the direction of County Administrator Bob LaSala.
While this story reports on the proposed cuts and mergers of the remaining pieces into other departments, county environmental services director Will Davis sent the budget office this memo (Download Davis memo) about how it could be done and with what effects.
Davis also offered up advice to department employees, according to an email provided to the Times.
"Some of these recommendations may change as we look at additional synergies of combining with other departments. I am sure this comes as quite a shock and I apologize for sending this information via, an impersonal e-mail but it was the fastest way I could inform all of you quickly. I will be meeting with each division and sending updates over the next several months as the plans develop and I have more certainty and detail as to the impact of these mergers."
