Brickfield say he's now taken pay cut

July

Pinellas County Commissioner Neil Brickfield, a Republican, confirmed this week he made the cut that he and other board members imposed on themselves for this year.

In April, the Times reported how Brickfield had not taken the 4 percent cut, a $3,640 reduction, while others had done it as part of their response to hundreds of layoffs of employees. Brickfield blamed trouble paying off a car loan and said he would make it by the end of the year.

But a week later, he began making donations (as other members did) to reach the reduction. State law sets the commission salaries, leaving board members to make donations or give money back to the county.

Brickfield supplied a list of recipients. On May 18, according to his list, the last $50 went to the Poynter Institute, owner of the Times.
