Browning sends regrets ... from Iraq
Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley was a bit confused when his successor, Secretary of State Kurt Browning, backed out of attending a Corley fundraiser this week as the featured guest.
How's this for an excuse: Browning went to Iraq instead.
"What an exciting opportunity for a good ole' boy from Dade City!!" Browning wrote.
Corley received a letter.pdf from Browning -- now posted on Corley's Web site -- explaining that Browning was heading to Iraq at Secretary of Defense Robert Gates' request. Browning wrote that he was assessing issues that troops have with getting absentee ballots and encouraging them to vote. Corley said he wasn't allowed to open the note until the fundraiser Monday night.
Browning did encourage support for his fellow Republican's re-election in November.
