Canadian Snowbird Association opposes Pinellas park fee plan
Add a new group opposed to Pinellas County's plan (story here) to add park fees for the 2011 budget.
The Canadian Snowbird Association, which represents retirees from Canada, has criticized the fees, because the group puts on annual one-day picnics at Fort De Soto Park and in Seminole. While they pay up to $500 to use shelters, the park fee could tack another $2,000 or more to their bills.
"Many of these travelers live on fixed incomes, own modest seasonal mobile homes, manufactured homes and condominiums most notably in Florida. Canadian snowbirds have been meeting annually in Pinellas County parks for many years in the form of annual, one-day 'fun picnics' coordinated entirely by volunteer snowbirds," writes president Bob Slack of the Toronto group in a letter (Download) to the county recently.
