In case you missed it in the print edition earlier this month, Johnnie Byrd running for judge
This appeared in print editions of the Times April 3 (the day after he announced). We're heartened to hear that some people think it doesn't matter unless it appears in Bay Buzz, or one of our other blogs, as well. So, by popular demand, here it is:
Former Florida House Speaker Johnnie Byrd, who says he's just a country lawyer from Plant City and not a politician anymore, announced his candidacy Monday for a 13th Judicial Circuit judgeship. Byrd will run for the Group 14 seat held by Hillsborough Circuit Judge Mark Wolfe, who was appointed to the bench 12 years ago by former Gov. Jeb Bush. Byrd made no criticism of Wolfe, but said he would be a better-prepared judge than any other candidate. In 2004, Byrd ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Bob Graham, but said he has no more interest in partisan politics. "My life's work is as a country lawyer."
