Challenger trains his voice, politics on Peter Nehr

State Rep. Peter Nehr, R-Tarpon Springs, already had another round brewing against defeated 2010 opponent Marg Baker, a tea party Republican who gained notoriety when she suggested camps for illegal immigrants last year.

Now he's got to go against a tenor named Phil Tropea. Tropea, a Republican from Palm Harbor, filed Monday to run against Nehr. As a glimpse of his politics, Tropea has recently critized the automobile bailout (June) and jihadism and leftist totalitarianism (July) in letters to the editor published by the Times. And there was 2006, when he warned, "Wake up, Floridians, and petition your local state officials to rid our lakes of alligators. Why live in fear It could be you or your loved one next!"

Here's a clip we found on Youtube identifying him as singing from years ago.
