Charlie Miranda to seek re-election to Tampa City Council
TAMPA — Veteran Tampa City Council member Charlie Miranda said Tuesday he will seek re-election to the District 6 seat representing West Tampa.
Miranda, who has served on the council three times since the mid 1970s, said he wants to work on making sure that the city has a reliable water supply for decades to come and that City Hall lives within its means. “It’s no more grab and spend,” said Miranda, who gave back a city raise in 2008 and unilaterally had his pay cut 5 percent in 2009. “You have to live with what you have."
In District 6, Miranda so far faces teacher and journalist Kelly Benjamin, who last week turned in the required number of signatures to qualify by petition. Benjamin said he would work to support small business, revitalize urban corridors and develop the community with one particular emphasis: “keeping it local ... to counter decades of unsustainable growth that have led us to where we are today.”
City elections are March 1.
