Charter Review Board close to forming

TAMPA -- Hillsborough County commissioners have named all but a few of the people who will be serving on this year's Charter Review Board.

The board is empaneled every five years to consider whether the county's charter -- its constitution of sorts -- needs any changing. It can be a very powerful board, though some years elects to change very little. The panel starts meeting early next year.

Here are the nominees so far from each commissioner:

Kevin White -- Frank Reddick, president of the Sickle Cell Association of Hillsborough County; and consulting engineer Joe Robinson.

Mark Sharpe -- Beth Leytham, a public affairs consultant; and pastor and community activist Gerald White.

Jim Norman -- Joe Amon, an engineer; and Ralph Fisher, a lawyer.

Kevin Beckner -- James Tokley Sr., the poet laureate for the city of Tampa; and lawyer Rochelle Reback.

Rose Ferlita -- lawyer Gina Grimes. (awaiting another appointment. She had nominated Stephanie Agliano of Tampa Electric Co., but the nomination was withdrawn.)

Ken Hagan -- Mitchell Thrower III, deputy director for administration at the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. (awaiting another appointment)

Al Higgnbotham -- Greg Preseau, a small business owner from Plant City. (awaiting second appointment).
