This won't be your average ribbon cutting. Clearwater on Saturday plans to build a new playground at Ross Norton Recreation Center, complete with the ceremonial ribbon cutting at 2 p.m.
Many elected leaders have expressed interest in attending, including Congressman C.W. “Bill” Young and Clearwater Vice Mayor George Cretekos (Mayor Frank Hibbard is out of town.)
But the city's recreation director Kevin Dunbar warns only politicians with dirty hands -- those who have helped assemble jungle gyms, slides and swings -- will be welcome.
The playground, funded through donations and grants, will be dedicated in honor of Arturo Huerta-Cruz, a soldier from Clearwater who died in Iraq on April 14.
