Commissioner calls for removing Alexander from state Senate budget chairmanship
Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe sounds like a guy who has ended, er, suspended his Congressional campaign. Sharpe blasted fellow Republican and state Senate budget Chairman JD Alexander, R-Lake Wales, over his attempt to slash funding at the University of South Florida in a letter to Senate President Mike Haridopolos Wednesday.
The letter bluntly asks Haridopolos to remove Alexander from his budget chairmanship for actions he decries as "capricious" and an "unpardonable assault on the State University system and the State of Florida.
"I call on you with the utmost respect to immediately remove Senator Alexander from his Chairmanship of the Senate Budget Committee," Sharpe writes. "No person has the right to put their personal agenda ahead of the welfare of the entire state."
Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to have their chairman, Ken Hagan, send letters to legislative leaders urging them to block the proposed spending cuts. This was a separate letter Sharpe decided to send in his own name.
