Commissioners asks state to spare Hillsborough Correctional Institution

While acknowledging that they were likely powerless to halt a train that is rushing down the tracks, Hillsborough County commissioners passed a resolution Wednesday asking legislators to spare a Riverview women's prison from closure. Hillsborough Correctional Institution is one of seven prisons statewide slated for closure as a cost-cutting measure. Several prison employees addressed commissioners asking for help in saving their jobs. The board's vote for the resolution was 6-0.
