Coquina Key mayoral forum planned for Aug. 25

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Coquina Key Neighborhood Association is hosting a "Meet the Candidates" forum on Aug. 25 at the Waterside Yacht Club, 5000 Beach Dr. SE.

So far, six mayoral candidates have confirmed their attendance at the 8:15 p.m. event: Scott Wagman, Kathleen Ford, Jamie Bennett, Bill Foster, Larry Williams and Richard Eldridge. Council member Karl Nurse, who is running to keep the District 6 council seat he was appointed to in 2008, also will attend, said James Harris, a Coquina board member who is chairing the event.

Before you say, "Yawn, another forum," check out the format:

It will start out traditionally enough, whereby candidates will get four minutes to make opening remarks and then Harris will ask a series of questions.

But then, in the second round, the candidates will get to ask each other questions, with a two-minute response time and a one-minute rebuttal. Sounds like fun!

Finally, if time permits, questions will be taken from the audience.

The public is invited to attend. Should we live blog this event? Or is 8:15 p.m. too late for you Bay Buzz readers to stay up? Let us know.
