Crist backs Greco in mayor's race
When Charlie Crist shucked his GOP registration and announced his independent bid for the U.S. Senate, former Tampa mayor Dick Greco was right there in Straub Park to endorse him.
Now that Greco has announced his candidacy for a fifth term for mayor, Crist is returning the favor.
Asked Thursday if he was backing anyone in the Tampa mayor's race, Crist said, "Yeah. I love Dick Greco. I think he would be a superb mayor. He has been before. And he's a dear friend."
Crist's remarks came during a free-wheeling 25-minute discussion with Tallahassee reporters.
Greco said he hadn't talked to Crist about his candidacy but was glad to hear of the governor's support.
"Charlie and I have been friends for years," Greco said. "He served many years in public life, did a great job, and I would really welcome his support. He's a good man."
