In one of the most competitive state house districts in Florida , Democrat Dwight Dudley continues to hit his Republican opponent Frank Farkas over a 2006 vote. Both men are battling to fill the seat for House District 68, which cover much of St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park.

In 2006, Farkas was a legislator and voted for SB 888, allowing utility companies like Progress Energy to charge ratepayers for construction costs of nuclear plants regardless of their completion.

In multiple stories, the Tampa Bay Times has detailed the rising costs for fixing Progress Energy's nuclear plant in Crystal River . Dudley is blaming Farkas for hurting consumers with his vote.

Dudley has released a video, asking voters to join him in signing a petition to repeal the law. He vows to “repeal the nuclear fee” if voters send him to Tallahassee to fill the seat.

“Frank Farkas voted to raise our rates so power companies could rake in cash for themselves,” Dudley says in the 48-second video. “Frankly, we can’t afford more of that failed leadership.”

The press release is at least the third time he has blasted Farkas over the 2006 vote. Dudley ’s campaign manager, Franco Ripple, says voters are “stunned and outraged” to learn that Farkas voted for the law.
