Democrat Gibbons: Re-elect Republican Bilirakis

Sam_gibbons Former longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. Sam M. Gibbons of Tampa endorsed the re-election of Palm Harbor's Republican U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis on Thursday.

Bilirakis took over the seat his father Mike Bilirakis held for 24 years in 2006. Three Democrats are vying to oppose him in November. Anita de Palma, a Clearwater resident who is the immediate past Florida director of the League of United Latin American Citizens; former Plant City Mayor John Dicks; and Bill Mitchell, who sits on the board of the Tampa chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, have all qualified for the election.

Other candidates who have qualified include write-in candidate Andrew Pasayan; John (Johnny K) Kalimnios, no party affiliation; and Richard Emmons, Term Limits for the United States Congress Party .
