Donors full of 'spirit' for Pinellas candidate
Republican Carl Folkman didn't break the bank when it came to fundraising for his 2010 bid to unseat Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala. But the in-kind donations for the Crystal Beach wine and spirits broker could help put on quite a party.
Folkman, who raised $2,900 in cash, checks and personal loans, also reported receiving $3,100 from in-kind donations -- mostly in the form of:
Three bottles of Magellan gin, three bottles of unidentified drink, five cases of mixed wine, two cases of South African wine, vodka (size unidentified), 10 cases of Major Peters mixers, two cases of Kai vodka, and an unidentified number of cases of p.i.n.k. vodka.
His finance documents say most of the liquor and wine are for fundraisers.
Latvala leads the pack of candidates, raising $7,800 during the past three months for a total of $50,200. Tarpon Springs Mayor Beverley Billiris, a Republican, collected nearly $4,300 for a total of $10,900. Republican Ray Brooks reported no donations for the fourth consecutive quarter, leaving his fundraising at $50.
