Ex-commissioner Brian Blair promoting anti-tax efforts
A week after former Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair lost the Republican primary for the District 47 state House seat, his publicist, Shannon Rose, told supporters in an e-mail to fear not: "This will not be the last you hear from Brian Blair on a campaign trail. He does not give up." Indeed. Rose continues to publicize Blair's stance against the proposed 1 penny sales tax to pay for rail, expanded bus service and road improvements. In his latest release, Blair encourages voters attend a No Tax for Tracks event titled "Defend the American Dream: How High Cost Rail attacks our Prosperity/Freedom." It's Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Alfano Conference Center. Speakers will include Randal O'Toole of the Cato Institute and Wendell Cox of the Heritage Foundation, according to organizers. “The proposed light rail system is a luxury, not a necessity,” Blair says in the release. "This is a perfect example of government greed at work." Meanwhile, HART, the county's bus agency, is stepping up its community outreach efforts to let people know how the money generated by the tax will be spent. Read more about that here.
