Familiar face on Hackworth campaign team at forum

DUNEDIN -- Democrat Bob Hackworth has a volunteer well-versed in the politics of this year's County Commission race for Susan Latvala's seat.

Robyn Poppick, who was fired from WorkNet Pinellas over her students gathering petitions for Beverley Billiris, is staffing Hackworth's table at a Hale Activity Center forum Tuesday night in Dunedin. Hackworth said she quickly began helping him after Billiris lost the Republican primary to Latvala, and nobody worked harder.

For the record, Poppick is sitting about feet from Latvala, who has her own table, at the event on former Dunedin mayor Hackworth's home turf.

Though WorkNet Pinellas found Poppick's actions inappropriate for a non-profit using government funds, the U.S. Department of Labor found no reason to prosecute. The petitions were never used, so they didn't affect who made the ballot. Poppick said the activity was merely a "civics lesson."
